Franklin, North Carolina, was founded in 1855 and has since grown into a popular destination for breath-taking natural surroundings, temperate climate, and numerous opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors. The Franklin area is also home to several outstanding medical, educational and recreational facilities, as it is the county seat of Macon County.

Outdoor activities abound in and around Franklin, which is a quick ride up the Cullasaja River Gorge to the popular Highlands-Cashiers area. Visitors enjoy fly-fishing, hiking, hunting, rafting, kayaking, camping, and the list goes on.

Franklin's quaint and charming downtown hosts many festivals and arts and crafts shows organized my local community members. Recently, downtown Franklin has experienced a revitalization aimed at creating a pedestrian friendly and vibrant Main Street, namely the town's Greenway.
